K-Way jackets: the iconic windbreaker that fits in your pocket

The K-Way story: a Parisian idea from 1965

The K-Way story begins in Paris in 1965. Sitting on the terrace of the Café de la Paix, Léon-Claude Duhamel, son of a trouser maker from northern France, watched passers-by caught in a sudden shower and pictured a light, compact layer you could always carry. His coated nylon windbreaker was first called En-cas before being renamed K-Way in 1966. It folded into a bum bag, came with a bright contrasting zip and quickly became a fixture of French family life. Boosted on screen by the 1980 film La Boum and relaunched as a fashion label by Italy's BasicNet group since 2004, K-Way now sits firmly in contemporary streetwear.

Waterproof, windproof and packable: K-Way know-how

K-Way's know-how comes down to one idea: shelter from wind and rain without the bulk. The Le Vrai 4.0 Claude is its most technical expression, cut from 100% recycled micro ripstop with a stated 10,000 mm waterproof rating, 10,000 g/m²/24h breathability and heat-sealed seams. Like the original, it packs into one of its own pockets. The Travel line brings the same thinking to the road with lightweight, water-repellent, crease-resistant fabrics and UV protection, plus quick-drying jersey on the Sergine tee. These are technical clothes designed for city days and weekend escapes alike, tucking into a backpack while taking up almost no room at all.

K-Way Le Vrai 4.0 Claude, the Travel line and knitwear

Our edit gathers the K-Way pieces available right now. The cropped Le Vrai 4.0 Claude jacket comes in Blue Depth and Beige Parsnip, a technical, recycled take on the classic K-Way windbreaker. From the Travel line, the Journeer is a zip-up hoodie in lightweight technical fleece, offered in Black Pure and Blue Depth; the Merager trousers, with straight legs and an elastic waist, come in the same shades; and the Sergine tee in Blue Depth packs into its own pocket. For cooler days, the Valter Shaded Yarn jumper plays with Blue or Grey Beige gradients, while the Chad Buttoned Yarn adds a button detail in Grey Cinder or Azure Blizzard.

How to wear a K-Way windbreaker with trainers

A K-Way windbreaker works as well in town as it does on the move. Throw the Le Vrai 4.0 Claude over a hoodie or the Valter jumper, add raw denim or chinos and a low-top pair of trainers: a New Balance 2002R, an adidas Samba or a white Nike Air Force 1 finishes the look effortlessly. For a tonal outfit, match the Journeer and Merager in the same colour and pair them with retro runners in neutral tones. The Chad jumper is a touch smarter and sits nicely with relaxed trousers and suede trainers. Keep the folded jacket in your bag and you are ready for any passing shower.
