Nike Air Max Goadome Low Croc Skin: the trail boot puts on a suit

When Nike's All Conditions Gear line released the Air Max Goadome in 2000, it was built for rain, snow and rough ground. Nike pitched it as its own winterised answer to the work boot that already ruled cold-weather streets, putting Max Air cushioning into a tough leather build with a deep-lug sole. The streets claimed it quickly, and through the 2000s the Goadome became part of the winter uniform in New York and around Washington, D.C., worn far more often on pavements than on trails.

The boot came back in 2025, and in early 2026 Nike cut it down into the Goadome Low, keeping the rugged character of the original while slimming the upper into a lower, cleaner shape. The first Lows took that idea in different directions, from a retro hiker to a polka-dot leather city version, which we still carry, and an automotive-themed collaboration with Taller de Rafa. The new "Croc Skin" pack takes the Goadome further from the mountain than any of them.

Both pairs are wrapped almost entirely in crocodile-embossed leather, so the scaled texture runs over the toe, quarters and heel and catches the light as you walk. Midnight Navy arrived first on 2 October in a blue deep enough to read as black in the shade, and the all-black version followed on 15 October as a monochrome that lets the texture do the work. Cord laces, the kind you would expect on a dress shoe, replace the usual hiking laces, and a small Swoosh sits on the heel. Underneath, nothing has been softened, as the visible Max Air unit and the lugged rubber outsole are the same ones that made the Goadome a winter staple.

That contrast is what makes the shoe interesting to wear. The croc finish suits pleated wool trousers and a long coat for an evening out, while the sole and Air unit still handle raw denim, a heavy hoodie and a puffer on a wet morning. In a season when most rugged footwear comes in black, brown or wheat, the navy pair offers a quieter colour, and the black pair works as a sturdier alternative to a leather Chelsea boot.
