Air Jordan 7 Retro: Michael Jordan's Olympic trainer

1992: the Air Jordan 7, a season of titles and gold

Unveiled in 1992, the Air Jordan 7 was the fifth Jordan designed by Tinker Hatfield. Michael Jordan wore it through the 1991-92 season, which ended with the Chicago Bulls' second straight NBA title. That summer he took it to Barcelona with the Dream Team and won Olympic gold, with the number 9 on the heel. The same year, the Hare Jordan ad teamed Michael Jordan with Bugs Bunny and cemented the Jordan 7 in pop culture. More than thirty years later, it still captures a superstar at the peak of his career, on American courts and on the world stage.

Design and tech: the Jordan 7 without a visible Air window

With the Jordan 7, Hatfield broke with the models that came before. Gone were the visible Air window and the Nike Air logo on the heel: the Jumpman now sits on the tongue and heel, while the Air cushioning is tucked away inside the midsole. Inside, a neoprene inner sleeve inspired by the Nike Air Huarache wraps the foot for a sock-like fit. Visually, the sole and tongue carry multicoloured geometric patterns inspired by African art, a graphic signature that instantly sets the 7 apart from every other Air Jordan.

Air Jordan 7 colourways: from Bordeaux to Miró

The Jordan 7 produced legendary colourways as early as 1992: Bordeaux, Cardinal, Hare in tribute to Bugs Bunny and Olympic in Dream Team colours. Today the collection spotlights the Air Jordan 7 Retro Miró, inspired by Joan Miró's Dona i Ocell sculpture in Barcelona. First released in 2008 ahead of the Beijing Games, it returns in 2026 with a white leather base, black nubuck overlays, abstract red, blue, green and yellow shapes and a gold 9 on the heel as a nod to 1992.

How to wear Air Jordan 7 trainers every day

A mid-top with generous volume, the Air Jordan 7 works with streetwear and cleaner looks alike. With straight raw denim or cargos it adds edge without overdoing it; with joggers and an oversized sweatshirt it goes back to its basketball roots. The graphic Miró is best paired with plain black or white pieces so its colours can shine, while more understated colourways slot easily into everyday outfits. Choose trousers that sit just on top of the shoe to show off the Jordan 7's signature shape and sculpted heel.
