Clarks Desert Boot: an icon since 1950

The Clarks Desert Boot story begins with Nathan Clark, a member of the founding family of the English brand. During the Second World War he noticed the crepe-soled suede boots worn by officers, bought in the bazaars of Cairo. Back in England he turned the idea into a simple two-eyelet design, launched in 1950. Adopted by mods, students and creatives in turn, the Desert Boot became a timeless classic and remains a wardrobe staple across Europe.
