To mark 30 years of Pokémon, Adidas Originals unveiled an anniversary collection in autumn 2026 in which each silhouette pays tribute to a fan-favourite creature: the Superstar, the Samba OG and the Adistar XLG 2.0. The bulkiest of the three, the Adistar XLG 2.0, was chosen to channel Gengar, the mischievous Ghost-type Pokémon with the trademark grin. It is a natural match between a chunky, Y2K-inspired sneaker and one of the franchise's most recognisable characters.

The design commits fully to the theme. Dressed in purple, the upper recreates the Pokémon's shape, with raised side panels forming its eyes, while white mesh across the toe completes the character when the shoe is viewed from above. Custom insoles and character graphics on the tongue tags finish the look, all sitting on the substantial sole unit that defines the Adistar XLG 2.0.
