Air Jordan XVI "Black Pack": an overlooked classic goes full blackout

First released in 2001, the Air Jordan XVI arrived during Michael Jordan's Washington Wizards era. For years it sat in the shadow of the more famous numbers, but in 2026 it returns as part of the Black Pack: four retros spanning the Air Jordan 14 Low, 15, 16 and 17 Low, tied together by one dark, texture-driven theme. The Air Jordan 16 Black Pack is one of the most striking pairs in the lineup.

Its signature is still the removable shroud. With it on, the shoe looks smooth and almost dressy; take it off and you get a sportier laced look. The upper is premium tumbled black leather, while the glossy patent leather toe caps are a direct nod to the 2001 original. Breathable mesh lines the tongue and heel collar, and both midsole and outsole are blacked out for a fully monochrome finish.

When it comes to styling, these black Air Jordan 16 men's trainers play on texture rather than colour. Wear them with wide pleated trousers, straight black denim or technical layers, under a long coat or a leather jacket. With the shroud on, they even work with sharper outfits, which makes them a rare pick in any rotation.

Rarely retroed and dressed in total black, the Air Jordan XVI black is for collectors who want a Jordan that nobody else in the room is wearing. It's a pair you'll actually wear, built to last well beyond one season.
