The Gel-NYC arrived in 2023 through a widely followed collaboration with New York label Awake NY, and it was never built as a one-to-one retro copy — Asics designed it as a mashup pulled from several running archive models at once. The outsole borrows the architecture of the Gel-Cumulus 16, the upper draws its lines from the early-2000s Gel-Nimbus 3, and construction details from the 2001 Gel-MC Plus V round things out. That archive collage, executed with a distinctly modern build, is exactly what turned the Gel-NYC into a genuine staple across Europe's sneaker scene.

The Cream/Antique Red colourway sets a completely different tone from the darker options in the range: a cream base covers most of the technical mesh and suede upper, warmed up by brick-red accents on the overlays, heel and sole detailing, echoing the earthy, warm palettes seen on early-2000s competition runners.
