Autry Medalist Low "White Amazon": the white tennis trainer with a green heel signature

It all starts in Dallas, Texas, in 1982. Jim Autry launches a sports footwear brand focused on tennis, running and aerobics, three disciplines booming in 1980s America. On court, one model quickly stands out: the Medalist, named the best shoe on the market by Tennis Magazine in 1985. Since its 2019 revival by Italian entrepreneur Alberto Raengo and his partners, the brand has made the Medalist the backbone of its lifestyle collection. The Low "White Amazon" is the version that stays closest to tennis-club style: plenty of white and just one hit of colour.

The upper pairs smooth white leather with tonal suede panels, their stitching tracing the overlays of vintage tennis shoes. At the back, the Amazon green heel tab carries an embossed Autry logo and gives the colourway its name. A micro-perforated toe helps airflow, the padded collar hugs the ankle and flat cotton laces finish the retro look. Inside, you get a leather and cotton terry lining plus a 2 cm raised leather insole. The American flag on the side and a 2.5 to 3.5 cm rubber sole complete the Medalist signature.

With white doing most of the talking, the White Amazon is a natural spring and summer pick, yet that green heel keeps it relevant all year. Wear it with chino shorts and an oxford shirt for a clubhouse feel, or with light straight-leg jeans and a knitted polo for the city. In winter, it brightens grey flannel trousers and a bottle green crewneck that echoes the heel detail.
