Nike Air Force 1 Low Retro “Baroque Brown”: a furry love letter to New York

New York is a big part of why the Air Force 1 became an icon. When Nike was set to drop the model in the mid-1980s, retailers in Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York pushed for fresh colourways and kept Bruce Kilgore's design alive. Harlem nicknamed it the “Uptown”, and the shoe has been tied to the city ever since. This Low Retro, known as the “NYC Rat”, salutes one of the city's most famous residents: the subway rat.

A dark grey leather upper is overlaid with Baroque Brown faux fur on the Swoosh, collar and heel counter, finished with fuzzy laces. The detail that makes it: a small red eye stitched into the fur at the heel. An “NYC” tag sits on the tongue, the black midsole carries brown AIR lettering and the outsole is translucent. A metallic lace dubrae on the forefoot completes the look. The official colourway is Baroque Brown/Black-Terra Red, and the pair belongs to a New York pack alongside an MTA MetroCard-inspired colourway, with a release set for late October 2026.
