Nike Air Max 90 Premium Black: the 1990 icon dressed as a Tiempo

Released in 1990 as the Air Max III and designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Max 90 introduced a bigger Air window and sharp lines that made it one of Nike's most influential trainers. For Autumn/Winter 2026, the brand reimagines it within a pack inspired by the Tiempo, its cult football boot, borrowing the boot's original black and white colourway.

This Air Max 90 Premium wears a genuinely new face: the quarter and mudguard taper off around the forefoot to make room for a separate black suede toe cap, while a quilted-look toe box with several rows of stitching recalls a boot. At the heel sits a black leather badge with white "Nike Air" stitching. The black midsole rests on a light brown gum outsole, joined by Volt Air units, Volt insoles and Volt and dark purple graphics moulded into the tongue.

These men's trainers lean into contrast with striped track pants and a windbreaker, or calm things down with black chinos and an oversized sweatshirt. The Volt flashes and gum sole add just enough edge to a dark outfit without shouting.

Unlike a standard Air Max 90, this Premium version is all about story and materials: suede, leather and boot-style quilting. It is a statement pair for anyone after a different AM90 in their premium trainer rotation, and a clear alternative to the more familiar all-leather takes on the silhouette.
