Oakley Straight Jacket 99 Matte Rootbeer: the return of a rebellious 90s icon

More than two decades ago, the Straight Jacket defined an era at Oakley: a bold, almost defiant style worn by athletes before it spilled over into film, TV and street culture. To celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025, the Californian brand pulled the model's second generation, born in 1999, out of the archive as the Straight Jacket 99. It belongs to the Jacket family, eyewear designed to fit the face the way apparel fits the body.

Behind the retro look is thoroughly modern tech. The rectangular O Matter frame, Oakley's lightweight material, keeps it comfortable all day, while Unobtainium earsocks provide a no-slip grip even when you sweat. Prizm Tungsten lenses on a bronze base let through around 14% of light (category 3): made for bright sun, they boost colour and contrast for sharper vision.
