That's exactly where the name comes from: Tuned Air, a cushioning system designed to respond differently depending on the area of the foot, with internal structures working alongside the Air unit. In 1998 that was a big deal, and what's interesting is that the shoe's look was built around the concept rather than the other way round: the ribs on the upper aren't just decoration, they visually echo the idea of tension and support that defines the model.
