In 1987, Tinker Hatfield designed the Nike Air Max 1, inspired by the Centre Pompidou in Paris and its inside-out architecture: for the first time, the Air unit could be seen through a window in the sole. The Air Max 90, Air Max 180, Sergio Lozano's Air Max 95 and the Air Max Plus followed.
