Birkenstock 1774 x Thibo Uerzell Leve "Cuoio": the cognac suede mule from an ex-Dior and Louis Vuitton designer

The number 1774 marks the year the Birkenstock name first appeared as a shoemaker in parish records. Birkenstock 1774 is now the brand's premium line, and in 2025 it launched Ensemble 1774, a creative platform driven by a Paris-based studio. To open it, Birkenstock called on Thibo Denis, a footwear designer with more than fifteen years in the game, formerly at Dior Men, where he worked on the Dior by Birkenstock collaboration, and later at Louis Vuitton's menswear studio. Rather than remixing a classic, he created three brand-new silhouettes, the Uerzell among them.

The Uerzell is a clean slip-on mule finished with fine laces across the top of the foot. The Leve version is cut from soft, velvety suede with a microfibre lining. The cork midsole is left exposed as a nod to Birkenstock's sandal heritage, while the sport-inspired thermo rubber outsole breaks away from the brand's usual flat sole. Inside, the removable Blue Footbed is anatomically shaped to support every arch of the foot. 1774 branding sits on the tongue and outsole. Cuoio means leather in Italian, and the colourway lands on a warm cognac.

That natural leather tone works with almost everything. Pair it with ecru pleated trousers and a linen shirt for an easy, polished look, or with raw denim, a grey marl sweatshirt and a wool coat for autumn in the city. Unisex by design, the Uerzell Cuoio can be worn with or without socks, from a relaxed office day to a weekend away.
