Nike Kobe III Low Protro Black: Kobe's MVP season, cut low and blacked out

On 20 December 2007, Kobe Bryant debuted the Zoom Kobe III against the Cavaliers. Designed by Eric Avar, then Nike Basketball's creative director, it carried him through the 2007-08 season that ended with his MVP award. Originally a mid-top, the model now returns through the Protro programme, which marries retro design with the demands of today's game, here in a low cut true to Kobe's pursuit of lighter footwear.

The Kobe III is recognisable by its striped TPU caging, inspired by basketball netting, and its diamond-pattern outsole, a nod to the middle name of his daughter Natalia. This Black/Mtlc Cool Grey colourway goes deep black: smooth leather on the toe box and heel, matte net-like structural panels and glossy triangular pieces on the lateral heel. A metallic silver Swoosh on the heel and a silver Kobe Sheath logo on the tongue add the finishing touch. On the tech side, the Protro brings a full-length Air Zoom Strobel, Cushlon 3.0 foam, retooled traction and extra tongue padding.

Built for the hardwood, these men's basketball trainers also work on the street: the all-black look pairs with technical joggers, cargo trousers or black jeans under an oversized hoodie.
